GMR GROUP BIDS FOR DAVAO AIRPORT

India's GMR group is a serious is a formidable contender for the development license for Davao airport in Philippines. Located in Davao city of Mindanao province, the airport is also known as Bangoy International Airport and happens to be the third busiest airport of the country, growing at 10% every year. The contract involves developing and running the operations of the airport as well as maintenance of the existing facilities, along with expansion/construction of new passenger terminal(s), associated infrastructure, facilities and equipment as per applicable standards. The contract also requires improvement of operations and maintenance of new and existing landside terminals, and airside facilities (including apron, runway and taxiway).

Philippines government announced that GMR group along with Megawide Consortium has emerged as a pre-qualified bidder for the project worth approximately $810 million. There are high chances of GMR being considered by the Philippines government as it is already operating the MCIA, another airport in Philippines.

In December 2013 GMR Infrastructure in association with Megawide Construction Corporation of Philippines won the $320 million bid for Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), the second busiest airport in Philippines that gives access to Visayas and Mindanao regions of the country. By November 2014 the joint venture GMR Megawide Consortium (GMCAC) started the renovation and modernization process and the JV will continue to operate the airport for 25 years.

Started by G.M. Rao in the late 1970's, GMR group operates the international airports of Delhi and Hyderabad. It is also developing Goa's Greenfield airport at Mopa. GMR is the only Indian company to have bagged international airport contract.
