Minister for Road Transport and Highway Nitin Gadkari gave a stern warning to NHAI officials by highlighting the fact that it is a 'Do or Die' situation for the Highway governing body in terms of achieving the targeted 40 km road construction per day. He reiterated that there will be zero tolerance for any laxity on part of delivery. The minister acknowledged the delays in the past owing to land acquisition and assured the team of full cooperation through proper mechanism in case of any problems. He suggested reduction in bureaucratic tangles in form of separate committees for every project and delegation for faster execution of work. He also announced incentives in the form of award for the best performing Director and Regional Officer. The construction graph for 2015-16 and 2016-17 rose consistently with the reported daily construction of 16 km and 22 km respectively.

Gadkari meanwhile also announced that the Mumbai - Vadodara, Bengaluru - Chennai and Delhi - Amritsar - Katra Expressways are enlisted for sanction by the June of this year, whereas tenders for 33 wayside amenities will also be up for grabs around the same time.
