An elevator is not a plug-and-play kind of product unlike other building equipment. Just as important is the design and quality of the elevator, it is equally important that it is installed and serviced by trained experts. Recognising the importance of highly skilled manpower, Schindler has invested in the world class university in Pune and four full-fledged, state-of-the-art training centres – one each at Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Noida. These training centres are equipped with elevator shafts and electronic control simulators which ensure that each of Schindler engineers and service technicians is trained and certified to work on the equipment, so that the elevators have the same world-class quality, reliability and safety which the Swiss company is known for.

Timely and efficient management of these assets is critical for safety and customer satisfaction. The Predix based digital platform will enable Schindler to predictively identify, analyse and resolve possible service issues before they happen, reducing and eliminating downtime.”
The new IoT connectivity solution is a crucial element of Schindler’s digital platform and will enable Schindler to better monitor, analyse and leverage data generated from its elevators and escalators.
The platform will provide the following breakthroughs:
• Analytics and expert services
• Emergency and monitoring services
• Active communication and powerful insights via action board
• Ready for future digital products and services.
What are the changing trends in the elevators in India?
Today, around 7 out of 10 elevators are sold in Asia-Pacific region. India is the second-largest elevator market in the world after China, with more than 50,000 elevators being sold every year. “The current growth rate of the elevator and escalator market is expected to be about 5-6 per cent with the growing urbanisation in the country,” informs Pinto.
He adds, “The elevator and escalator market growth is mainly driven by the residential segment and also the activity and initiatives in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. It is likely to get even stronger in the near future, with the focus on initiatives like “housing for all”, development of smart cities and new infrastructure projects. This creates a need for taller buildings with even more efficient and innovative mobility solutions.”
Elevator is literally the lifeline of a building and the breakthroughs in elevator technology have made it possible for the buildings to grow tall. The important part here is to plan for the correct number and specifications of elevators, considering the type of building, it’s tenancy, population etc. “The reason why this is so crucial is because once the elevators are installed, it is extremely difficult to change, or add more elevators without making substantial changes to the building structure,” he notes.
Pinto states, “With Schindler’s advanced traffic analysis tool based on real-time simulation, Schindler adds a lot of value on this front, by helping its customers to plan for the optimum elevator configuration while designing their buildings.”
Schindler’s advanced Digital Planning tool adds key value on this front, by helping architects and customers alike to plan for the optimum elevator configuration while designing their buildings. It helps not only in planning, but this dynamic tool also enables architects to create elevator layouts, elevator traffic study and tender documents in customised manner for their projects. Moreover, the tool will help architects and designers in all kinds of facilities planning based on its type and usage, be it residential, commercial, hotel, hospitals etc.
Schindler Digital Plan uses the latest visualisation technology and data analytics to give designers and customers comprehensive product specifications and detailed layout drawings which are invaluable. Architects using Schindler Digital Plan will be provided with two options that is Guided Planning where the designers will navigate through the portal and enter building design details and the second option will be Fast Track that allows the architect to filter the Schindler product catalogue to find the desired planning data which includes determining the minimum elevator requirements through a simple Traffic Study and Schindler product recommendations.
