Aashita Chadha- CFO & Co-Founder at “ The KariGhars”
All over the world, I see women of Indian origins as icons of empowerment, and discussing their success is an important way to celebrate their victory in the face of endless obstacles. I believe that women are the real builders of society & we are fortunate enough to be able to see them take center stage at prime leadership levels, for instance, both Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Arden and Vice President of the U.S.A. Kamala Harris is at the helm of impressive positions.
It is now becoming clearer than ever that women can do whatever they set their mind to, just like men or even better! Major companies are making big strides in the name of women empowerment - maternity leave has been mandatory for new mothers and after they return from their leave, they can return to their same position.
Shilpi Sonar, Founder & Principal Designer at “Creations”
32 years ago, I started my journey as a designer in Raipur, a small town in Chhattisgarh. Back then, technology and software programming was not as advanced, and thus the ideas took time to turn into reality. Now things have progressed immensely in the field of interior designing. Social Media handles like Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest have brought in a revolution and everything is easily available at the click of a button. Software Development has immensely helped in realizing concepts and ideation while also aiding in time management. With the growing technological inventions, it became easier and comparatively accessible for women with time to reach heights in a previously men-dominated profession. Like all women, my life was also full of struggles when I dared to challenge the norms and set out to become the only woman interior designer in Raipur, 3 decades ago. Many clients and on-site constructors would ask for second opinions after I gave my first brief. But situations have improved and people have slowly started to accept the bigger professional role played by women.
Shaily Ganatra, Interior Designer & Founder- The Auura Interior Design Studio
Today we see half of the interior design students as women when compared to one or two odd females faces back in the day. Uncountable women-led firms are reaching new heights with the right kind of leadership & vision. Fewer men now question the competency and qualification of women and accept the charge of leadership above them. In fact, they also generously lend a helping hand & seem to be more open for professional collaborations. Talent and virtues are now being recognized widely and tangible steps towards equality- pay or respect, are being taken by mindfully promoting gender equality in workplaces. However, young minds should now be aware of detailed intricacies of efficient space design, accurate working drawings, and suitable material knowledge. One must always be open to learning throughout their professional career as education is what sets the difference between a decorator from a designer.
