Proper use of the appropriate equipment contributes to economy, quality, safety, speed and timely completion of a project. These act as a backbone in the case of huge construction projects. Construction equipment are used for highway projects, irrigation, buildings, power projects etc. Almost 15-30% of total project cost has been accounted towards equipment and machinery.

Classification of Construction Equipment

Bull Dozers

A bulldozer is a crawler (continuous tracked tractor) equipped with a substantial metal plate (known as a blade) used to push large quantities of soil, sand, rubble, or other such material during construction or conversion work and typically equipped at the rear with a claw-like device (known as a ripper) to loosen densely-compacted materials.

Loaders

This heavy equipment machine is primarily used to lift material (such as asphalt, demolition debris, dirt, snow, feed, gravel, logs, raw minerals, recycled material, rock, sand, and woodchips) into or onto another type of machinery (such as a dump truck, conveyor belt, feed-hopper, or railcar). A bucket is attached to arms, capable of being raised, lowered and dumped through mechanical control.

(a) BD50: Powered by BEML diesel engine model BS6D105 developing 90 FHP (67 kw) @ 1750 rpm, fitted with direct drive Transmission having 4 forward & 3 reverse speeds, angle dozer blade attachment.

(b) BD65-1: Powered by BEML diesel engine model B6D125-1 developing 165 HP @ 1850 rpm, with torque flow transmission having 3F & 3 R speed, fitted with angle dozer blade attachment

(c) BD80: Powered by BEML turbocharged diesel engine model BS6D125-1 developing 180 HP @ 1850 rpm, diesel, 4 stroke, turbo charged, fitted with direct drive transmission of 5F & 4R speed, angle dozer blade.

(d) BD85: Powered by BEML turbocharged direct injection diesel engine model BS6D125-1 developing 230 HP @2000 rpm, water cooled, 4 cycle, Powershift transmission,  fitted with straight tilt dozer blade.

  1. Wheel Loaders: BEML is producing 2 models in this category based on payload capacity.

(a) BL200-1: Powered by H6ETIC3RU23-BSIII Ashok Leyland TC engine developing 133 HP @2300 rpm, water cooled, 4 stroke, direct injection diesel engine. Fitted with power shift transmission with 3F-3R speed with different size bucket from 1.5 cum to 3.3 cum based on the density of the material going to handle.

(b) BL30-1: Powered by Ashok Leyland BSIII engine model H6ETIC3-CRS developing 220 HP @2200 rpm, turbocharged, water cooled, 4 stroke, direct injection diesel engine. Fitted with power shift transmission of 4F-3R speed with different size bucket from 1.5 cum to 3.3 cum based on the density of the material going to handle.

  1. Motor Graders: BEML is producing 2 models in this category based on Blade capacity.

(a) BG405A: Powered by BEML model BS6D105-1 BSIII diesel engine, developing 125 HP @ 2400 rpm, fitted with power shift transmission with 6F & 3R speed, scarifier attachment, blade length 3100mm (10 feet),

(b) BG605I: powered by BEML model BSAA6D125-BSIII CEV diesel engine developing 146.8 HP @ 1800 rpm, turbocharged, water cooled, four stroke, six cylinder, fitted with hydro shift transmission having 6F & 5R speed, blade length 3665mm (12 feet).
