How do you look at bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2024 compared to the previous editions?
The 2023 edition of bauma CONEXPO INDIA was a landmark event, being the first construction equipment show in India to feature electric machines. Volvo led the way by showcasing an electric excavator and a wheel loader, setting the tone for the industry’s shift toward sustainability. Interestingly, a few other exhibitors also brought their first electric machines to the event, indicating a growing momentum for electric equipment.
This edition builds on that progress with a significantly greater number of electric-machine launches on display, highlighting the industry’s accelerating journey toward electrification. Beyond electric equipment, there has been considerable advancement in sustainable technologies. Fuel efficiency continues to improve, and the introduction of new regulations, such as CEV 5 norms and updated safety standards coming into effect from January, has further driven innovation. This exhibition is not just about electric machines but also about showcasing cutting-edge engines, machines, and technologies that will shape the future of the construction equipment industry.
What is Volvo’s focus at this exhibition?
At this exhibition, Volvo is spotlighting its latest innovation, the EC210, a 20-tonne excavator that is the most fuel-efficient in its class. Since its launch, the EC210E has been gaining market share and widespread adoption across various client segments. This machine was launched under the campaign “Karo Zyada Ki Umeed”, emphasizing its promise to deliver more value and exceed customer expectations. To enhance the experience, a demo area allows customers to interact with the machine and explore its features firsthand.
In addition to product innovation, Volvo is focusing heavily on aftermarket support. Under the campaign “Asli Ki Tasalli”, the company is introducing several new schemes aimed at promoting the use of genuine parts. These initiatives underscore the long-term benefits of using authentic Volvo parts, offering customers reliability and cost efficiency.
Volvo is also showcasing its comprehensive solutions portfolio. This includes connectivity-based services and Equipment-as-a-Service (EaaS) business model, which allows customers to access machines on a flexible service basis. These solutions reflect Volvo’s commitment to addressing modern customer needs through innovation and value-driven offerings.
What is your outlook 2025 for Volvo and the industry?
The year 2024, despite being an election year, has defied expectations by turning into a growth year for the industry. This demonstrates that India’s infrastructure development has gained significant and lasting momentum. The cyclical slowdown often observed during election years seems to have been effectively broken, marking a new phase of consistent progress.
Looking ahead to 2025, we anticipate even greater opportunities. Historically, the second and third years after elections are when governments undertake substantial project execution. With major infrastructure initiatives like the Bharat Mala project in motion, the outlook is optimistic. As highlighted by Minister Gadkari, the project pipeline includes investments worth Rs 70 lakh crore, with plans to release Rs 5 lakh crore annually. This robust push toward infrastructure development sets the stage for sustained industry growth and innovation.
