Prakash Reddy, Owner, Mark Con Mix, shares his views on the future of the construction industry and immense contribution of Tata Tippers in his business.

After a year of suppressed activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing lockdown, the Indian construction industry is expected to grow by 11-12% in 2021, on the back of the pent-up demand. With a primary focus on projects pertaining to urbanisation and industrial development, fuelled by increasing population and rapid development, the industry is set for phenomenal growth in the coming decade. Government initiatives such as the National Infrastructure Pipeline, and increased investments of about 34% year-on-year to the infrastructure capex as announced during the Budget 2021, is further expected to catapult the construction sector to greater heights. With such enormous investments expected in the next few years, the demand for construction aggregate, M-sand and concrete is on the rise.

One such company which has grown exponentially over the last two and a half decades is the Bangalore-based Mark Con Mix Pvt. Ltd. Mark Con Mix is primarily responsible for the manufacture and transport of blue metal, M-sand, ready-mixed concrete and concrete blocks, and includes clientele from varied sectors including construction companies, property developers and infrastructure project contractors. Established in 1996, Mark Con Mix began its operations with the most popular light commercial vehicle in India, the Tata 407, which was deployed for the transportation of automobile spare parts. A few years later, with the Tata 1613, the company began its journey in the construction space and since then has displayed considerable growth over more than 20 years of its operations. Known for its economical yet innovative methods in the construction space, Mark Con Mix has played a significant role in the construction sector in South India, especially Karnataka.

Evaluating key growth indicators, A Prakash Reddy, Owner, Mark Con Mix says, “Mark Con Mix is looking forward to leverage the opportunities arising out of the estimated growth in the construction industry to further build on its success. With the company's rich and unparalleled expertise in this field, led by a team of highly professional specialists and advanced state-of-the-art equipment, we are confident in leading in the industry.” Reddy attributes much of his success to Tata Motors' best-in-class products and expedient services.

Commenting on Mark Con Mix's association with Tata Motors, Reddy notes that Tata Motors' range of robust and sturdy products have supported the company since its inception in 1996. “Tata Motors tippers have truly been the pillars of strength for the company, providing for more than 60 per cent of our fleet. From a very practical perspective, Tata Motors has mastered the art of engineering and manufacturing tippers suited for particular applications, especially the tippers engaged in quarry to crusher applications that form an integral part of the fleet at Mark Con Mix. For aggregate transport and ready-mix concrete applications too, Tata Motors' vehicles provide best-in-class operating efficiency in-terms of payload, capacity and mileage, and are loaded with performance-enhancing features.” Reddy also appreciates the advanced technology used in the tippers like engine brake and Hill Start Assist, which not only helps the driver but also reduces the wear and tear in the vehicles and provides enhanced safety. Further, the short turning radius of these tippers help in navigating through tight bends typical of the working environment of the vehicles in city areas.

Reddy started off his business with 6-wheeler trucks and is now assured that going forward, 16-wheeler trucks will help him yield more profits and reduce the operating costs. He further takes note of the cutting-edge technology in Tata Motors trucks, specifically the company's advanced telematics system, which plays a pivotal role in the functioning and maintenance of the vehicles.

Emphasising the excellent after-sales services, Reddy states that the entire package from Tata Motors has proven to be an excellent value proposition for the company, “The exceptional range of services, bucketed under Tata Motors' Sampoorna Seva, has been an integral factor in Mark Con Mix's unfaltering trust in the company and its wide range of products.” He adds, “The end-to-end experience right from the ease of purchasing a Tata vehicle to the after-sales services and the various driver-centric initiatives, make Tata Motors a preferred selection for all our commercial vehicle needs.”

Speaking of the benefits provided to specifically his drivers, Reddy observed that they have been exceptionally happy with the superior driving experience of Tata tippers as well as the benefits of its additional programmes. He further stated that Tata Motors has been committed to providing training and skilling initiatives to the drivers. The drivers have shown an active interest in pursuing the Tata Samarth initiatives which have been beneficial to not only the drivers but also to their families.

Talking about future fleet expansion plans, Reddy said, “There is definitely going to be an increased demand for commercial vehicles in the imminent future as more and more construction projects come to the fore. While Mark Con Mix already has Tata Motors BS6 vehicles in its fleet, the company is planning to expand the range to cater to the growing demand for construction equipment. Our partnership of over 20 years with the largest commercial vehicle player in India and the reliability and trustworthiness on not only its vehicles but also the Tata brand at large has been deeply beneficial, and we hope to continue it in the years to come.”

Summing it up Rajesh Kaul, Vice President - Sales & Marketing, Commercial Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors states, “Top-class products, excellent services and committed customer engagement are the three pillars on which the Tata Motors commercial vehicles' philosophy is built. Mark Con Mix's strong and fruitful association with Tata Motors for over two decades is a clear testimony to this philosophy. Being a customer-focused company, Tata Motors has always delivered a perfect bundle of world-class products and top-notch after-sales services. We look forward to building on this association with Mark Con Mix and look for a successful journey ahead.”
