What is your view on the current infrastructure developments happening under the National Infrastructure Pipeline programme?

The government is focusing on increasing the road connectivity by increasing the length of national highway, expressway, economic corridors, industrial corridors, rural roads (PMGSY) etc. The Indian Government is also encouraging usage of innovative materials, automation and machine control technologies in the construction sector in order to improve efficiency and lower the impact on environment. The Union Government has allowed 100% FDI through automatic route subject to applicable laws and regulation. The future trend indicates that the road construction will increase in India and new technologies will be required to fulfil this need.

How does sustainability play a key role in your products and operations?

Wirtgen's expertise in advanced cutting technology makes it possible to selectively mine mineral deposits without drilling or blasting - in the most environmentally friendly manner and with the purest quality. In the last two decades, Wirtgen surface miners offer products which compete with the current challenges. With the latest innovative surface miner, the per ton production cost has reduced helping customers to achieve better profitability.

Wirtgen not only develops innovative machines of exceptional quality. The permanent goal is also to keep the environmental impact of machine technology as low as possible. Wirtgen surface miners are a prime example of this - they feature environmentally friendly technology that cuts, crushes, and loads rock in a single operation. The tremendous advantage of the selective mining method is that vibration-free material extraction without drilling and blasting produces very little dust and noise. At the same time, the low environmental impact makes it possible to fully exploit the deposits, even in the immediate vicinity of residential areas. When using the selecting mining method, the area required to extract high-quality material is much smaller than with conventional methods. Our fuel-efficient, intelligently controlled engines meet the strictest emissions standards.

What opportunities do you foresee for your products and solutions in the upcoming market scenario?

Opportunity for India as a manufacturing hub for construction equipment always existed for several years, however very few companies have been able to encash on this fully by exporting machines all over the world. Wirtgen India has been one such company and we are currently the largest exporters of our track-mounted screens all over the world from India. Our plans to focus more on exports would continue and we are already moving in that direction.

All the machines offered by Wirtgen are equipped with computer-assisted automated features which not only optimize operating processes and machine productivity but also improve operator performance. Intelligent information and diagnostic systems additionally support and relieve the operator, resulting in a faster and more efficient way of working. It is always equally important to closely work towards manufacturing cost optimization, value engineering, innovation and technology which is path towards cost leadership and hence a big contributor to cater competitive market requirement and serve the construction industry.
