Epiroc partners with IITMRP and Guidance Tamil Nadu to drive sustainable mining

Epiroc has launched an innovation outpost at IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP) to drive sustainable solutions for battery energy storage and electrification in the mining and construction sectors. The outpost comes as a result of the MOU signed by Epiroc with IIT Madras Research Park and Guidance Tamil Nadu for furthering their sustainability focus and driving electrification in mining and construction areas. This collaboration with IITMRP and Guidance Tamil Nadu aims to accelerate the development of cutting-edge technologies to support decarbonization and enhance sustainability in industrial operations. The partnership focuses on combining Epiroc’s expertise in electrification with IITMRP’s industrial research capabilities and Guidance Tamil Nadu’s investment promotion efforts.

IITMRP, a leader in industrial R&D, serves as a hub for pioneering technologies in sustainability, while Guidance Tamil Nadu plays a key role in attracting investments to the state and helping organizations expand and innovate.

The innovation outpost was inaugurated on December 3, 2024, with key leaders from Epiroc, IITMRP, and Guidance Tamil Nadu, including Vishnu, IAS, MD & CEO of Guidance Tamil Nadu; Nadim Penser, Senior VP - Brand & Communication, Human Resources, SHEQ; Arunkumar Govindarajan, President Epiroc India; Nicklas Nilsson, VP People and Leadership, Epiroc India; Natarajan Malupillai, Group CEO, IITMRP; Reema Saha, Head of Marketing & Sales, IITMRP; and Chandu Rao, MD, Epiroc India and GM, Epiroc Innovation and Technology Center.

This partnership with IIT Madras Research Park & Guidance Tamil Nadu will accelerate the transformation of sustainable solutions and battery electric vehicles in the mining & construction segment,” says Arunkumar Govindarajan, President, Epiroc India.

Additionally, Epiroc has established a satellite office for its Innovation and Technology Center in Guindy, Chennai, which will house about 50 engineers and support its regional sales team, further strengthening its presence and commitment to sustainability in India.
