Fire safety is turning into a pressing need in residential and commercial buildings these days. How do you look at the current scenario of fire safety?

India's growing cities are increasingly threatened by fire hazards due to rapid expansion in construction and industry. Ensuring stringent fire safety regulations for high-rise buildings and industrial sectors is paramount. Effective communication is necessary to raise public awareness about this critical issue. Collaboration and innovative solutions are key in addressing these risks and ensuring the safety and prosperity of communities.

At Sattva, we prioritize superior fire safety measures that exceed industry standards. Our projects incorporate FM-Global approved fire equipment, ensuring the highest level of safety. Additionally, we install sprinklers in toilet areas, surpassing typical industry practices, to cover every corner of the building. This proactive approach reflects our commitment to constructing future-proof structures for maximum safety. While adhering to NBC regulations is common practice, our dedication to going above and beyond sets us apart in creating a secure environment.

What are the major reasons for the growing number of fire incidents in buildings and towers?

It's important to raise awareness about areas in buildings that are highly prone to fire, such as food courts and kitchens, which are often overlooked when it comes to safety and security. A proactive approach to safety is essential, and this can be achieved by having a dedicated facility management team that checks the fire panel room on every campus or at a residential complex on a regular basis.

What are the key fire safety systems to be installed by the builder at his project to fulfil the needs of fire safety norms?

As per the NBC (National Building Code 2016), it's mandatory to include a Fire Tower, which integrates a firefighting lift and staircase, every 300 sq ft area, a standard we adhere to at Sattva. Additionally, our commercial projects implement advanced measures such as electric cooking and regularly checked fire control panels to mitigate fire risks. In our commercial office buildings, we construct refuge balconies at intervals of 24 meters initially and then every 15 meters thereafter, aiding firefighters during emergencies. These balconies feature projecting slabs for firefighters to connect hoses, crucial infrastructure for enhancing safety and minimizing losses. Through these proactive measures, we aim to establish a safer and more secure environment for all occupants.

On the other hand, periodical maintenance of fire equipment as well as fire safety drills comes in handy to avoid potential fire hazards and better equip the fire safety personnel to address any unforeseen situations that could pose a threat.
