All the Metro TBMs currently being supplied by us in India are now made in India

bC India has been a first major gathering post pandemic era for construction equipment sector in India, which has seen similar footfalls to that of pre-pandemic. Overall, we are quite happy as an exhibitor to meet and greet some our customers/vendors face-to-face after a long gap of TWO years. However, we feel that, bC India still has a long way to catch in terms of available infrastructure, logistics, and technical support when compared to such exhibitions in other parts of the world.

What is your overall experience at bauma this time as an exhibitor?

bC India has been a first major gathering post pandemic era for construction equipment sector in India, which has seen similar footfalls to that of pre-pandemic.

Who were the major visitors at your booth?

We received visitors from all segments such as contractors, rental players, government bodies, editorials & vendors without limiting geographical boundaries of India and abroad.

What are the highlights of this bauma edition?

It was organized quite well, displays were put up by some big manufacturers and focus on electric-driven CEM is buzzword now.

What are the solutions from the company showcased in this bauma? How are these going to make an impact in the Indian projects?

Herrenknecht is a global leader in design/manufacturing of tunnel boring machines (TBM) and providing end-to-end mechanized tunneling solutions. We are based out of Germany and currently we are only TBM manufacturer having a dedicated manufacturing facility in India at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. At bC India, we showcased India success story and how we have moved from importing TBM in 2019 to now manufacturing TBMs in India. We can currently produce 10-12 metro size TBMs/year. All the Metro TBMs currently being supplied by us in India are now made in India.

India is moving at a fast pace with metro now reaching tier 3 cities as well. There is a huge demand for all sizes and types of TBMs in coming years and India is currently ranked the second-largest TBM market in the world. Herrenknecht has been a part of this growth story since 2002, when first of its TBM was supplied to Delhi Metro Phase 1. Since then, more than 200 km of tunnels has been completed by around 75 Herrenknecht TBMs. Herrenknecht is now keenly looking forward to large diameter road and railway projects which are now on the horizon and will materialize in next couple of years.
