Dubai starts construction of world’s largest airport terminal
Dubai’s Prime Minister and Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in a statement announced the commencement of constructing a $35 billion airport terminal that will be the largest in the world having a capacity of handling up to 260 million passengers.
It will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport. Once completed, the new terminal will have five parallel runways and 400 terminal gates. According to the Dubai PM, all the operations of the Dubai International Airport will be transferred to the new Al Maktoum International Airport in the coming 10 years.
In his announcement, the PM said that Dubai will be “the world’s airport, its port, its urban hub, and its new global center”. The Dubai government is building an entire city around the airport in Dubai South.
The new terminal will host the world’s leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors. “We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn,” the Prime Minister stated in his post.
