How do you see the market dynamics (demand and growth drivers) for Gensets applied in various industries such as infrastructure, housing, data center and healthcare sector?

For Genset industry, growth drivers at present are some sort of movement in the ecosystem. Of course, healthcare shall witness a special focus by government and private players. Data centers, Infrastructure Projects, Agro-based industries and Pharmaceutical are also experiencing healthy demand. Other segments are also likely to catch up in a few months if we do not witness a 3rd wave of the pandemic.

Could you brief us on the technology and innovative trends, especially the unique and advanced features in your range of Gensets?

Customers are looking for better and innovative service packages based on lesser operating hours. Remotely monitored gensets are gaining priority. Greaves offers a genius range of DG sets which come fitted with a remote monitoring system to capture all essential DG set parameters and transmit them to the user's laptop or mobile. It allows the user to see all necessary electrical parameters, energy generated, fuel level in fuel tank, fuel consumed, fault alerts etc. on his device. Even the location of DG sets can be monitored via GPS. So, huge advantages for both retail customers and fleet owners who have DG sets installed in a scattered area including rental players who have mobile DG sets. Genius also checks and alerts upon pilferage of diesel. The timely alerts enable timely diagnostic and corrective actions to get maximum uptime and longer life of DG sets. This is further backed with a 5-year / 5000 hours warranty for 10kVA to 500kVA from Greaves at no extra cost which is unmatched in the industry.

With space constraint being a common challenge, lower footprint is becoming more important for customers. Greaves DG sets are very compact and come at small footprint.

What do you think will be the impact of the implementation of stringent regulations to curb toxic emissions, increasing grid connectivity & focus on renewable, on the growth prospects?

Greaves is geared for the next level of emissions for its DG sets which is CPCB IV +. Also, for Greaves with improvement in Grid supply, application becomes pure standby leading to customers looking for value for money products having longer warranty periods (Greaves offers 5 year / 5000 hours warranty up to 500 kVA at no extra cost which is unmatched in the industry). Also, demand is expected to pick up due to spurt in development in Infrastructure, health care industry etc. in line with GOI's focus on Make in India, smart cities, better connectivity through expressways / highways, Data centers, real estate projects in Tier 2 &3  etc.)

Focus on renewable is going to take away some demand for DG sets. However renewable is still to catch up as a 100% power backup option in most of the segments and also due to much higher investment required for Solar for the same KVA rating as DG Set.

What is the scope and potential for hybrid systems and how prepared are you in this space?

Our gensets can be easily customized so that they are fully equipped to seamlessly integrate with rooftop solar and industrial solar systems to present an environment friendly source of power.

What do you think is the rental scenario of Gensets?

Rental is still in a nascent stage in India, currently under the unorganized sector. It will become more important in the CPCB 4+ regime. Organized players are expected to enter this segment. Asset acquisition will become more expensive and rentals will increase. Unorganized sectors with Pre CPCB 4+ fields will have an advantage. At the moment rental scenario is expected to be upbeat except in Delhi NCR where there is NGT ban from October till March every year and to some extent in states where State Pollution Control Board has taken out guidelines to curb emissions in DG sets. With growing construction & infra development demand for rental DG sets shall continue to be high.

What do you think are the challenges, risk factors and potential avenues in the Genset market?

Challenges / Risk Factors:

  • Pandemic / lockdowns - if it continues off and on disrupting economic activity. Third wave of Pandemic expectation is looming large.
  • Economic revival to pre-covid levels may not happen soon.
  • Customer acceptability of the increase costs of new technology to meet CPCB 4+
  • Renewables - Govt policies and drive give greater advantage to users (more subsidy etc )
  • State level and NGT ban to curb pollution.

Potential Avenues :

  • Healthcare will get special focus driving demand for DG sets.
  • Data centres coming up fast in India as per Govt policy to have all data within India.
  • GOI's Make in India & Smart City drives.
  • High industrial growth in the long run.
  • Growth in Health care, Pharmaceutical, Infra & IT/ITES sectors.
