Can you tell us about the technological advancements achieved in the warehousing sector and how has it benefited the developers and clients?
Technology has been impacting warehousing profoundly in the last few years. Developers have received steadily improving response for their offerings. While some innovations deal with specific aspects of a warehouse such as picking, storing, retrieving, etc, others deal with managing the entire warehouse more effectively. For example, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are a great way to ensure labour safety and improve warehouse efficiency; automating the storage and retrieval through AGVs save a lot of time and avoids accidents. On the other hand, 360 degrees software systems such as Automated Inventory Control Platforms or Warehouse Management System help managers better manage their inventory and overall warehouse operations effectively. Automatically counting inventory, precise pinning of item location, or automatically generated reports help save time and focus more on higher-order tasks such as accurate planning.
The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the speed at which warehouse owners adopt technology. Challenges that emerged in the last 2 years such as implementing social distancing, speeding order delivery, creating extra space for backup inventory, and flexibly responding to changing regulations have pushed for adoption of technological solutions.
How do you assess the growth in the warehousing segment, especially in the backdrop of the Covid pandemic?
A combination of favourable government regulations, an export push, and increased investments in manufacturing and warehouses in the last few years shall boost growth of organized warehousing across the country. Prime occupiers of space in the coming years shall be 3PL, e-commerce, FMCG, manufacturing, and retail industries. Agricultural warehousing, too, shall witness a high growth rate. Moreover, as last mile delivery becomes more important due to surge in e-commerce operations, we shall witness warehouses coming up in tier-II and tier-III locations across the country.
As vaccination, now, takes centre stage it throws up newer challenges for logistics manager. Mandatory requirement of maintaining storage temperatures, ensuring warehouse space in remote locations, and swift and accurate movement of doses are major issues to be taken care of.
Tell us about the technologies introduced by Rucha Yantra.
All of Yantra's offerings are designed to meet the most challenging of shop-floor and warehouse conditions. Given the constraints of space in a warehouse, an AGV must be able to manoeuvre smoothly, utilize space effectively, and not causing any hinderances. We have designed VAMEN as a tunnel type and flat-bed AGV that is extremely low in height. Its dimensions allow it go under trolleys and lift heavy loads. Features such as bi-directional movement allow it to utilize lesser space in the warehouse as well as increase speed of movement. Moreover, collision detection sensors at the front as well as back, ensure that no damage is caused to the environment.
As Covid-19 mandates warehouses to keep more inventory and utilize space more efficiently, AGV such as Yantra's VAMEN shall be ideal to meet the requirements.
