How do you assess the growth opportunities for smarter, connected building technologiese specially security and surveillance solutions from smart city projects?

The three pronged strategy of 'Smart Cities Mission', 'Digital India' and 'Make-in-India' programs by the government has created a positive environment for the security industry to grow further. We foresee that Smart Cities Mission is a key driver for innovation and growth in the security industry in India. The Smart City Projects are creating new opportunities for IP and IoT enabled products, technologies and solutions. There are big growth opportunities in the Smart Cities for smarter and connected building technologies with specific reference to security and video security solutions.

What is the industry size and expected CAGR for security and surveillance solutions?

The Indian security market has immense scope and untapped potential to have double digit growth due to rising demand for innovative security solutions. The current state of the physical security market in India is impacted by the pandemic. However, the Indian security market has its inherent strengths and resilience to face the challenges, it is poised for growth and expansion in the future. Apart from the metro cities, India's vast network Tier-II and Tier-III cities are developing fast due to various socio-economic factors.

As a solution provider, what are the major challenges you face?  Is cost a deterrent?

Prama Hikvision as a leading security solution provider, is always resilient in approach while addressing the challenges. As we are consistently winning over the challenges related to market competition, local manufacturing and upskilling. We are assured about the cost competitiveness of our value added products and solutions in the market, hence cost is not a deterrent to us.

What is your take on security issues --network / data / IoT etc?

The increasing need and implementation of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) in urban infrastructure have led to greater attention in the smart cities. As smart cities get even smarter, ensuring their security becomes more important. After all, they rely heavily on networks of information and on the connections between systems, sensors, and devices. With this vastness of connected IT, IoT (Internet of Things) and OT (Operational Technologies) infrastructure and devices, there are multiple threats that need to be approached with proactive planning and resilience.

At the government level, there is a need for clarity regarding issue of data privacy. A team familiar with the information security discipline is good enough to start with. There are unintended chains of consequences of these digital connections accessed via the internet and massive cloud computing architectures. This is why, security by design, good security hygiene, and a team of information security specialists, are absolutely critical for ensuring information security in the smart cities. A resilient security strategy, futuristic policy framework and stringent adherence can ensure smarter security for smart cities.

Could you brief us on some of your latest solutions introduced in the market?

All-Rounder ITS camera: Prama Hikvision has recently introduced the new All-Rounder ITS camera. It is engineered with an all-in one structure, embedding video, radar, and supplemental light in one module, helping traffic authorities to easily ramp up the detection of violations. Beyond the visual range that is perceived by video cameras, the abilities to understand other kinds of “senses” would allow even more precise monitoring and reporting of events or accidents. This is multi-dimensional perception, a trend that will drive the security industry in the future.

ColorVu and AcuSense Cameras: The latest ColorVu Cameras powered by the new Hikvision ColorVu Technology enable cameras to produce colorful videos, even in extremely dimly lit environments. When using a conventional camera with infrared lighting for night monitoring, people, vehicles, or other important objects are blurry and blend into the background, making it difficult to identify details. Color-related information is crucial for many scenarios and are a great asset for data and analyses.

The latest Hikvision AcuSense cameras supported by the AcuSense technology, are engineered with an upgraded deep learning algorithm, which analyzes live video streams and labels them as “human,” “vehicle,” or “other events. Those labeled as human and vehicle will trigger alarms for security staff, while other events such as rain drops, animals, or the movement of foliage, for example, will be drastically disregarded. The result is a striking reduction in false alarms - now with an accuracy approaching 98%. In this way, security personnel can focus on genuine security issues and take action. Additionally, related videos are automatically sorted by categories for easier search.

What is your outlook for the next couple of years?

The outlook for the Indian security industry is very promising for the next couple of years, it will continue its onward march with double digit growth.  The transformative technologies AI, IoT, Blockchain and Big Data will play a big role in developing smart applications for proactive security solutions.
