SELA PASS: Road Tunnel Project of Strategic Importance

Patel Engineering Ltd has been executing infra projects with a vast experience of more than 70 years and specialized in sectors of hydro, irrigation, transportation, etc.

For Sela Pass Road Tunnel project, we are working at high altitude region of more than 13,000 ft with adverse weather conditions of almost -15oC temperatures and at very low oxygen levels.

Sela Pass Project is located in high altitude, experiencing heavy snow falls and incessant rainfalls almost throughout the year, except 2-3 months clear window. Our team is working tirelessly for the realisation of this strategically important BRO Sela Road Tunnel Project.

During winters, diesel gets freeze and using winter grade diesels with higher costs and efficiency of the men and equipment get reduced. During the period of snow falls, project roads will get frequent road blockades due to which, project supply chain gets affected.

Due to sub-zero temperatures, concrete is not setting and cycle time is increasing. Work progress gets hampering due to extreme cold weather conditions.

In spite of providing adequate winter cloths and personal protective equipment, manpower is facing health issues and going for frequent medications. Efficiency of the manpower got decreased and able to manage very limited working hours and it's directly affecting on work progress of the project.

Due to incessant and heavy rainfalls of the region, open works progress gets affected and needs repeated working. The project is nearing completion and is expected to be ready in May 2023.

After completion of this strategic road tunnel, the travel time will be reduced to 1-1.5 hours and distance will be shortened to 12 km. Through this tunnel, army can take their heavy equipment to distant and extreme border areas. Socio economic development of the region, particularly both districts of Tawang and West Kameng will get benefitted and tourism footfall will also increase tremendously.
