TATA BLUESCOPE STEEL launches 'Kawach Pro-Certification Workshop'

A first-of-its-kind professional certification program for structural riggers and roofers, in association with CIDC.

In an attempt to support and encourage the Indian steel building and construction industry, in the first phase Tata BlueScope Steel kick-started its unique professional certification program for structural riggers and roofers on July 21, 2022 at one of its prestigious customer sites, IDEX India, Sanand, Gujarat. This initiative will address the shortage of professionally trained structural riggers and roofers the industry is currently facing and increase the employability of these skilled labours.

Sharing his thought while conceptualizing this program, Anoop Kumar Trivedi, Managing Director, Tata BlueScope Steel said, “Construction workers needed a platform to ensure they get the right training and know-how to become better professionals. Kawach Pro-Certification is one step towards empowering them to earn professional credentials, thus elevating the entire construction industry with world-class safety practices while demonstrating our commitment for quality.”

Training modules are curated by top industry professionals and trainers from Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC). It includes both on-site and theoretical framework, in a 2-day workshop.

The module includes:

• Training on Safe Construction Practices
• Training on Working at Heights and Critical handling
• Mobile equipment operating techniques and risk management
• Certification post assessment

The demand for people who can install steel structures and roof systems with safe construction practices and quality finish, is high. A professionally built structure lasts longer, is safer and sturdier enabling superior aesthetics. Speaking about the current batch, Pulin Trivedi, General Manager - Building Solutions said: “About 40 construction workers were qualified for receiving national level certification from CIDC. Their main take away from this workshop is increased knowledge, confidence, and pride in their work. This will help them work with improved safety practices and new-age approaches.

With many more workshops planned in the future at multiple sites, Tata BlueScope Steel will be instrumental in creating a pool of certified workforce who are skilled, professionally trained roofer and structural rigger, across India and within the construction industry.
