The most recognisable machinery in any construction site because of their size and significance, earth-moving equipment are ubiquitous across applications in the construction industry.

Technological advancements in the field of remote monitoring and telematics are some of the key factors driving the earthmoving equipment demand. Market players are integrating their equipments with advanced software solutions to provide robust monitoring and control capabilities to users.

The market is witnessing a growing trend of adopting multifunctional equipment to cater to a wide range of applications on construction and mining sites. Multifunctional earthmoving equipment, such as a backhoe loader, can be deployed in several applications including material handling, excavating, and re-filling. In response to the escalating demand, manufacturers are introducing new models of earthmoving equipment with multiple functionalities.

Rapidly increasing urban population demanding for better infrastructure facilities is expected to positively impact the demand of earthmoving equipment market. Various government initiatives which are undertaken for development of infrastructure & the increasing investments in the construction industry are projected to drive consumption of the global earthmoving equipment market. Need for better connectivity and enhanced transport facilities are also anticipated to drive the industry. Increasing globalization is expected to create a favorable environment for foreign direct investment which is estimated to enhance the growth of the market.

However, the market is witnessing a slowdown presently due to the ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The construction and mining industry is experiencing a major setback owing to several factors such as shortage of capital and labor. Government authorities are shifting their focus from large construction projects to mitigating the pandemic situation.

Speaking on the future trends in the earth-moving equipment, V. Senthil Kumar, Managing Director - Propel Industries, said, “The earthmoving equipment industry is surely going to boom further, thanks to the construction projects that are being initiated by the central and state governments. Industry experts believe that the thirst for super- efficient automated equipment will create a positive impact. The earthmoving equipment segment is expected to maintain its top slot in the construction industry.”

He further added, “After this second wave of Covid-19 subsides, the road to recovery will be bumpy. The SoPs and travel restrictions, which have to be followed to win over the pandemic, will make operations extremely tough, that is when we have to turn to technological means. More than one year into this fight against Covid-19, we have learnt to make the best use of available resources and serve our customers better. One classic example of this is when we were able to ship a track machine to Uganda just by connecting to port logistics crew and our customer team through video conferencing. The entire process of loading, transporting, unloading and commissioning happened without Propel staff being there physically.”

Sandeep Mathur, Brand Leader - CASE INDIA, said, “CASE has always been at the forefront of technology. Globally, we have introduced a lot of product concepts which are loaded with advanced technological features like Project TETRA and our autonomous tractor concept which is completely driverless, remotely controlled equipment which can increase a working day to a full 24 hours thereby increasing productivity. We've also launched excavators with Case Intelligent Hydraulic System (CIHS) which actively manages hydraulic power throughout lift/dump and dig/curl movements to maximize speed and efficiency while reducing fuel consumption by minimizing unnecessary hydraulic flow.”
