How is the logistics & warehousing sector evolving in India? What is the current market scenario?

The logistics sector is one of the fastest-growing and the pandemic has only further underscored the significance of streamlined logistics. According to research reports, the approximate size of the Indian logistics market has been pegged at $215 billion. We are poised to offer an integrated solution for the warehousing industry in India, from automated intra-logistics solutions to the manufacturing of lift trucks, and custom racking solutions with seismic capabilities.

What is your view on the recent government announcements that will push the growth of logistics & warehousing infrastructure?

The operations of e-commerce companies have been made easier by the government's robust infrastructure development projects and the substantial presence of PSUs in the defence, infrastructure, and energy sectors. One such instance is the sizeable fulfillment facility in West Bengal for a major e-commerce company. This has improved the presentation of the top e-commerce company in the East and Northeast regions. One of the largest in Asia, the fulfillment centre was Godrej Storage Solutions' first major order and is sprawled across 100 acres. It is expected to generate 160 crores in revenue.

How are Godrej solutions helping in transforming India's warehousing operations?

Godrej Storage Solutions offer an integrated solution for the warehousing industry in India, converting Grade B and C warehouses to structured, automated warehousing facilities. We offer diverse products and services which include pallet racking and shelving solutions, cloud-based warehouse management software, intelligent warehousing, shop-floor solutions to increase shop floor productivity, and value-added warehouse consultancy.

At Godrej Storage Solutions, we have designed modules for the industry around operations, safety, and have specialised service offerings around audit and building capabilities.

To address the e-commerce boom, we have introduced innovation in the following areas:

Improving productivity: Understanding the importance of integration of lighting to enable effortless picking operations and provide an ergonomic environment for the operators, we have introduced a new colour scheme which improves the ambience of the warehouse to allow sufficient lighting across different areas.

Choice of walkway and decking: Multi-tier shelving systems are built with walkway surfaces which are the major zones of man, material and MHE movement. We offer a range of walkway panels considering the density of storage systems, application, fire safety requirement, load of the material, smoothness of operations, etc. The walkway panels range includes wood/FRP/grating/resin deck or embossed panel. Similarly, a range of decking surfaces is also offered depending on the load, type of SKUs etc.

Choice of dividers and claddings: We have introduced a range of fixed and adjustable dividers to accommodate different types of SKUs. The range includes mesh divider, HDPE divider, and long SKU divider which are optimised for better fit, feel and finish. We also offer a range of claddings to prevent the fall of SKUs like mesh cladding, simple strap cladding, nylon mesh cladding, which ensure both operator and material safety.
