Construction activities are gaining pace in the country once again. How is this driving the demand for aggregates?

Although the industry witnessed a slowdown due to the pandemic, but we have been witnessing a quick recovery as well over the last few months and this trend is likely to continue in future as well.

Having said that, the market for crushing and screening equipment has grown enormously. In the stationary segment, the impact crushers (VSI crushers) have seen a growing demand especially in the aggregate and manufactured sand segments. The market for mobile crushing and screening solutions has also been seeing a growing demand in the metal processing segment.

The aggregate demand is gaining firm grounds. New project announcements such as the Ganga Expressway, Narmada Project, Bharat Mala project, along with various railway projects such as Sevoke-Teesta Railway project, the Bullet Train project between Mumbai-Ahmedabad and its extension plan - are some of the prestigious projects which will reinforce the growth and demand going forward.

What are the steps needed for meeting the growing aggregate demand in future?

The road construction segment continues to remain strong, with execution reaching a record high level of 13,300 km (approx) on account of growing government initiatives to improve transportation infrastructure in the country. Various controls and efforts have been made by the government to sustain this speed of construction, which is a positive step in the right direction.

In the mining sector too, iron ore mines are consolidating, but their further development will have to be quick to meet the projected steel demand of >250 MT by 2030. This would in turn lead to an increase in demand for new crushing and screening plants by at least 15%. For semi-mobile plants, the average capacity demand will be in the range of 200-300 tph; for track units it will be 200 tph; while the stationary plants will see demand changing from the current 300 tph to 500 tph and also higher capacity for Capex project, to realise the output and meet the country's growing infra development requirements.

Mining is also gaining pace in the country where crushers and screens play a major role in mineral processing. What is the demand-supply scenario of crushers and screens in mining?

The development in the mining sector, mainly iron ore, will have to be quick, to meet the projected steel demand which would in turn lead to an increase in demand for new crushing and screening plants by at least 15%.

In addition to the crushing and screening equipment there is a high demand for washing and beneficiation equipment for enhancing the grade of ores, which is picking up at a faster pace. Demand for base metal segment - copper, zinc, and bauxite is coming up as well and we also foresee a considerable demand for Uranium ores to meet future power demand, wherein Sandvik has the largest share of the market in the crushing segment.

Which capacity crushers and screens are fast-moving in India construction and mining space?

Sandvik is one of the leading players in rock processing solutions for the mining and construction industries. The crushing & screening market is maturing and has moved to 300-400 tph range. How is manufactured sand (M-sand) segment driving the demand for crushers and screens? What are the key solutions in M-sand production?

There are different kinds of sands. For instance, the crushed stone sand is a fine aggregate produced by crushing hard stone. The crushed river sand is a fine aggregate produced by crushing natural gravel. Mix sand is a mix of this and river sand. Then, there is manufactured sand which is produced from resources other than natural resources. Manufactured sand is even sub-classified into concrete sand, plastering sand and sand for masonry works with each having its own IS standards.

A study by the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) has estimated that the annual demand for sand in urban India is 60 million metric tons. The restrictions imposed on river sand in many states have led to a huge demand for alternative options like M-sand. With this, there is also an increase in demand for good quality material with sustainable and optimised solutions for each rock type.

The road construction sector, core construction and real estate sectors play a major role in driving the market. At Sandvik, we offer customised plant solutions together with world-class products and top quality standards which the market today demands.

Sandvik has a complete range of equipment for producing quality sand. The new VSI200 series crushers produce the best quality sand owing to the highest level of safety ,flexibility and mechanical advantages.

Recycling and reusing of C&D waste is an emerging scenario in construction. What are the crushing & screening solutions offered specific to C&D waste recycling?
