Deepak Thakur, Business Head, UPS & Data Center Solutions, shares his views on the data centre segment and highlights the solutions offered. Excerpts from the interview…

How do you assess the trend in data centres with increased power capacity in India?

Data Center sector is one of the fastest-growing industries in India. With emerging innovative technologies and government support, India is likely to rise as the world's largest data center hub strengthening the data center park throughout the nation.India has the potential to become a lucrative market for the data center provider as there is favorable real estate support, power capacity, submarine fiber cables landing stations, and demand for data storage that will propel the growth of data center infrastructure. In the last few years, the reliability of power has improved, especially in some major states. The government has realized the significance of data centers and its impact on the economy as well as potential investment, thus taking various measures to support the ecosystem, which also includes providing land options with sufficient power availability and usage of renewable energy resources.

Further, with the government's decision for the data localization against storing it outside the country, will add to the development of data centers in India. These opportunities are supporting the big hyperscales that focus on major expansions in the Indian market, extending their new builds within colocation facilities, and showing interest in building their own facilities.

How do you assess the move towards Tier IV category due to the growth in rack power density and critical applications?  What is the bearing of this on POD service providers like Delta?

The adoption of server infrastructure is majorly influenced by rack servers that account for over 70% of the market share. The significant factor to this growth is increasing requirements of the high-density servers as a result of more complex computation needs and development in the emerging technologies, which includes edge computing, IoT, and data analytics. Further enterprises that are require 24/7 round the clock data center solutions and have several critical applications that can never be down; for them, the preferable option is tier IV data centers. With the tier IV data center, a business can expect a consistent performance at all hours with minimum downtime throughout the year. Thus operational sustainability plays a major role in site availability, which can be ensured in tier IV data centers. They are designed to offer constant availability of the services with reliability, which are essential for the growth of businesses and enhances the customer's trust for the organization.

At Delta Electronics India, we understand the emerging demand of the enterprises for the data center solutions. Our Delta InfraSuitedatacenter infrastructure Solutions provides integrated design and scalable system architecture that supports customers in building an optimal datacenter with fully-integrated infrastructure solutions. Modular data center adopt a modular, standardized, and highly-integrated design that makes the system more stable. In addition, modular data centers can provide configuration solutions such as N, N+1 and 2N to support electricity back-up depending on the customer's requirements to reach the highest TIA-942 Tier 4 level.

Could you enlighten us on the latest trends in power management techniques for data centres?

The focus is to make the technology more energy efficient and integrate renewable sources for the power requirement of the data centre infrastructure. With the preceding time, the data centre infrastructure by power capacity is expected to grow as the solar energy potential in Karnataka is expected to exceed 24/7 GW. This can be a major advantage for the operators to meet the power requirement of their facilities thought solar energy solutions. Another significant aspect is to increase the data centre efficiency that will support the industry to manage the growing workload without a major increase in electricity demand. This requires designing high energy-efficient cooling solutions. The energy demand for cooling solutions has been one of the primary reasons for the over low energy efficiency of the data centres. Thus, the trend is to adopt cooling solutions that understand these challenges and provide solutions that meet the cooling demand at optimum energy needs.

What is Delta's contribution in power management techniques that ensures high-performance and low-costs, also increasing efficiency without sacrificing uptime?
