Madhusudan Sarda, Managing Director, Gabion Technologies India

With construction activities gaining pace, especially in geographically challenging regions, how are your technologies and solutions finding more relevance today?

In the realm of construction activities, particularly in regions with geographical complexities, our technologies and solutions play a pivotal role. Our commitment lies in delivering sustainable geotechnical solutions, exemplified by the GTI Earth Wall - Gabion Fascia reinforced earth walls. These innovative solutions prove invaluable for addressing challenges such as valley fill portions in hill roads, presenting a sustainable alternative to traditional RE walls.

Additionally, we provide an array of advanced solutions, including the Anchors mesh system for rockfall protection, 3D erosion control mats, soil nail with coir mat, and DT mesh. These technologies are strategically employed for slope stabilisation and in the hill cut portions of road and railway projects, effectively mitigating potential hazards and ensuring long-term stability. Not only do these solutions enhance safety, but they also contribute to economic advantages, leading to substantial cost savings in construction endeavours.

What are the latest solutions offered by the company in construction sector?

We are dedicated to advancing environmentally friendly construction products and systems that play a crucial role in achieving sustainable infrastructure growth. In line with this commitment, we proudly introduce our latest offerings: the GTI® Sloping Fascia unit and the GTI® Reinforced Soil Slopes system.

The GTI® Sloping Fascia unit presents a versatile range of fascia options tailored to accommodate various slope angles and align with the aesthetic preferences of each unique project. These pre-assembled units are meticulously engineered for efficient installation, streamlining the process and ensuring a flawless front face and reinforcement system without discontinuities or joints. This innovative and sustainable solution minimises concrete consumption, and the construction of green vegetative slopes promotes increased biodiversity.

The system is designed to accommodate a diverse array of fill materials, including site-specific fills, recycled materials, and quarry technical backfills. Beyond its versatility, the GTI® Reinforced Soil Slopes system demonstrates effective resistance to both differential settlement and seismic activity, addressing concerns related to surficial stability. Its adaptability makes it a fitting choice for a wide spectrum of construction projects, contributing to the industry's progress toward more sustainable and resilient infrastructure.

Can you highlight some of the key construction projects where your technologies play a major role?

Our involvement extends to numerous challenging construction projects characterised by difficult accessibility, limited boulder availability, and the presence of factors such as heavy rainfall and occasional submergence. Our dedicated in-house design team plays a pivotal role in tailoring solutions to the specific demands of each project. This involves conducting site visits as necessary before design, and at times, engaging in onsite design work to ensure alignment with project requirements and obtaining necessary approvals.

Benefiting from our integrated manufacturing capabilities, we excel in designing and customising products to address the unique needs of special projects. Noteworthy among our contributions are the adoption of GTI® Gabion Earth Wall and GTI® Reinforced Soil Slope System in various road projects undertaken by industry leaders such as Afcons, HCC, L&T, and HG Infra. These technologies have proven instrumental in enhancing the resilience and stability of the infrastructure in challenging terrains, demonstrating our commitment to innovation and excellence in the construction sector.
