How do you assess the year 2022-23 for roads and highways sector?

The construction equipment industry grew by about 22% over the previous year. However, the performance of the road equipment manufacturers was not up to the mark as the beginning of 2022-23 was quite lukewarm. The contracts started getting awarded only in the last quarter of 2022-23. Since the beginning of the year was not quite good, there was a slight de-growth in the construction equipment for the roads sector. One major issue was availability of funds especially for plants. Many of our contractors had placed orders with us but were not able to pick up due to paucity of funds.

The Budget 2023-24 has allocated Rs 2.7 lakh crore for the roads & highways sector. How do you look at the opportunities in this scenario?

The allocation of Rs 2.7 lakh crore for the roads and highways sector in the Budget 2023-24 presents a significant opportunity for the road equipment manufacturers. Even if only half of the projected investment happens in 2023-24, it would be great for the industry. In the last quarter of 2022-23 and the beginning of 2023-24, many orders for road contracts were released, and we anticipate that the target for investment in the sector will be met in the current financial year. This presents a great opportunity for road equipment manufacturers to further contribute to the sector.

What are the latest solutions from the company to meet the future demand?

Ammann India continuously strives to meet the future demand of the roads and highways sector by developing and offering advanced solutions. These include technologies such as intelligent plant control systems with user-friendly GUI, energy-efficient asphalt and concrete plants with remote monitoring and optimization.

We also focus on sustainability by offering solutions for recycling reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and utilizing alternative and renewable energy sources in our plants. In the RAP segment, we already supply a wide range of solutions including the 25%, 40% or even 60% RAP plants both new and as a retrofit to existing asphalt plants. We also have the technology to produce 100% RAP plants too. We have supplied 50 to 60 asphalt plants in Europe and other parts of the word which can use 100% rough material.

Another innovation we recently introduced is asphalt plants with a capability of producing Mastic Asphalt, a derivative of asphalt which is highly durable and resistant to wear. Our goal is to provide innovative, reliable, and sustainable solutions that enable our customers to achieve higher productivity, quality, and profitability in their road construction projects.
