Town planning authority City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has decided to appoint Maharashtra Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) for the implementation of balance works of 11.1 km Navi Mumbai metro line 1.
Maha Metro is a 50:50 joint venture of Central and Maharashtra governments incorporated to implement all metro projects undertaken in the state outside the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
“Due to Covid pandemic and some technical issues, the development work of six stations out of the total 11 stations from line 1 could not be implemented at expected speed. Therefore, to complete the balance works of the above line at the earliest and to create an economic source for the project, Cidco came to a decision of appointing Maha Metro for this,” the Corporation said.
CIDCO, which is the implementing agency for developing Navi Mumbai metro network, has already conducted the trial run of line 1 on September 1, 2019.
“Maha Metro has work experience of recently executed Nagpur Metro phase 1 as well as the construction, development and operations and maintenance work of metro line 1 and 2 being developed under Pune Metro. Therefore, an important decision was taken by CIDCO to appoint Maha Metro for the fast track implementation of Navi Mumbai Metro line 1,” CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Mukherjee said.
Navi Mumbai metro 1 is a part of the over Rs 4100 crore and 23.4 km long Belapur-Khandeshwar corridor.
“We shall also focus on financing the project, financial discipline, land monetization along the corridor, enhancing non fare-box revenues, and last mile connectivity. We remain committed to our cause of transit oriented development,” Mukherjee added.
