The five-day event showcased various smart, digital and sustainable water solutions for transforming cities.

As a pioneer in advanced pump solutions and water technology, Grundfos is highly focused on providing sustainable water solutions to India's urban areas. A city's water system consists of several networks such as drinking water, water distribution, wastewater transport& treatment, raw water intake, industrial water transport and HVAC systems. With growing urbanization, water requirements are rapidly increasing, ranging from domestic water needs to industrial purposes, water is being used extensively in India. Additionally, the need to adopt to sustainable operations is driving the water management and pump sector to innovate newer and energy efficient solutions.

The Grundfos Smart Cities Virtual Conference provided a 360o immersive and interactive virtual reality experience. The 3-dimentional design of the platform allowed for a complete audiovisual simulation of the environment wherein the audience had liberty to view content through any device, allowing them to look and move in any direction, through seamless navigation. The event that took place from 16th to 20thDecember 2020, displayed many such Grundfos products for smart homes, industrial applications, wastewater treatment & management, solar water supply systems, intelligent connectivity, water boosting systems and air-conditioning systems, to name a few.

Integrated with technologies of the Industry 4.0 movement, such as Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics, electronic connectivity with remote control &monitoring, pumps are set to make water management systems of India more intelligent and energy efficient. Aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 13 (UN SDG 6 & 13), Grundfos' innovations for smart cities are developed with ultra-modern engineering to enable greener and eco-friendly water management. Combining life-cycle thinking with eco-design principles, Grundfos' products would make cities more sustainable, while cutting down the cost of operation and maintenance while reducing the carbon footprint too.

Products and systems covered in Grundfos iSOLUTIONS package are built with digital technologies to optimize water management. iSOLUTIONS, a technology from Grundfos enables the collaboration of intelligent pumps, cloud connectivity and digital services whichis ideal for industrial applications. With iSOLUTIONS, customers can reduce downtime, maintenance cost, system complexity and lifecycle cost.

Grundfos' contribution towards smart infrastructure has helped build an effective and robust emergency response system to any extreme weather conditions. Grundfos supplies complete flood control systems to protect urban and rural areas from flooding. The solutions include a complete range of products optimized for high total efficiency and low maintenance costs, to meet the high-flow and low-head requirements. For example, in the Irla flood control pumping station in Mumbai, water levels of sea and Nallahwater levels are always monitored ensuring preparedness of pumps to operate during the flooding season. It also helps to run the pumps in non-monsoon seasons, which becomes a part of routine testing and maintenance of the pumping station. Grundfos' Demand Driven Distribution (DDD) is another such smart solution for cities to reduce leakage in water utilities and distribution networks.DDD utilizes proportional pressure for automatic adoption, which studies the pressure data through remote sensors to optimize the pressure in a network automatically at critical points. With DDD, water hammering can be controlled to avoid causing new holes in the pipe network and help reduce water leakage upto 20%.

Grundfos' innovations are transforming Indian cities to be more sustainable and efficient in water use and management. The application of state-of-the-art technology, with products such as Grundfos iSOLUTIONS, brings intelligence to pump systems and water technology, with solutions that look beyond individual components and optimise the entire system. To leverage this and effectively manage water, Confederation of Indian Industries' Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Center (CII Godrej GBC) has opted for Grundfos to upgrade their air-conditioning plant to a more energy efficient system. Grundfos' iSOLUTIONS along with the CRE pumps were provided to the air-conditioning plant, which helped reduce approximately 50% of energy consumption.
