An Economical & Eco-friendly Bio-enzymatic Soil Stabilizer for the Construction of Roads.

TerraZyme is an alternate to the use of Soling and WBM or GSB and WMM.

TerraZyme, manufactured by Nature Plus Inc - U.S is an excellent replacement for GSB and WMM in road construction. TerraZyme is a liquid extract from sugar molasses, plant and vegetable extracts that improves the engineering qualities of the soil like CBR values and density and decreases the OMC, plasticity index of soil.

In India, roads constructed using TerraZyme have performed exceptionally well, to the tune of 650 km for the past seven years. These roads have been used in all soil and weather conditions, including all weather roads in Western Ghats receiving over 4000mm of rainfall to Mizoram for Border Roads. We have also constructed roads successfully in black cotton soil.

TerraZyme, being liquid in nature, is successfully being implemented across the country for its ease of use, using professional soil stabilization machinery to simple farming equipment. This enables the product to successfully be implemented in highways to rural roads achieving daily output of 3000 sq.mt to 8000 sq.mt. No additional cement or powder is to be added with TerraZyme design.

TerraZyme has also been used in RAP process, using partial or full depth reclamation leading to huge savings in time and cost for strengthening and upgrading the existing broken down road infrastructure.

TerraZyme is in the schedule of rates of 4 states and has got its rate approved in six more states. TerraZyme roads are designed based on IRC SP 37 or IRC SP 72 using AASHTO structural numbers, which is further verified using E values (modulus) of treated layers with IIT pave software.

Roads constructed using TerraZyme have been monitored by leading technical institutes in India, like IIT Bhubaneshwar, NIT Warangal, NIT Raipur, College of Engg , Trivandrum and IR Rasta in Bangalore.

The performance evaluation studies which have been conducted from three months onwards till 36 months post construction have shown that TerraZyme constructed road are performing extremely well with a high success ratio. The high light of these studies are as follows:

- The field CBR value of treated layers depending on design varied from 30% to above 60% in all the tested roads.

- The modulus (stiffness) was found to be in range of 250 to 450 Mpa

- The roughness index with OGPC was found to be average of 2000mm/KM, showing a smooth riding surface after multiple monsoons

- The PCI index was approx. 2.5 proving the roads were in good conditions with minimum distress after multiple monsoons.

The environmental and economical benefits to the nation are tremendous. On an average 4000 sq.mt of road construction for rural roads, the following are the ecological and economical benefits of using TerraZyme

- 10% design thickness can be reduced using TerraZyme as compared to conventional cross section. TerraZyme layers have helped replace GSB layers and reduce thickness of WMM layers too

- 143 Cum of metal or 30% less aggregate being used as compared to conventional design

- 588 cu.mt or 60% less GSB material being used as compared to conventional design. 

- Savings of minimum 10% approximately per KM are achieved on using TerraZyme

- Savings of Rs.0.5 lakh to 1 lakh of maintenance per km.

- Mining, transportation , hauling, mixing and spreading time amounts to savings of 30 to 50% lesser time as compared to conventional roads

- Mining requirement is lowered, thereby saving our natural resources

- 357 tonnes of aggregate is saved

- 1470 tonnes of GSB material saved

- Fossil fuels and pollution is lesser as the volume of material much lesser

- 600 litres of diesel is less used

- Rs.42,000 of fuel is saved
