Could you brief us on the market trends for Rope Suspended Platforms?

Rope Suspended Platform which is commonly known as Gondola (or cradle/RSP) is an electrically operated temporarily installed suspended access equipment which is a suspended manned facility for external work at heights and designed to suspend along the vertical surface of building. It is an advance and the safest technology which replace the uses of unsafe mechanism like bamboos scaffolding at construction sites.

It is widely used in India for performing various applications at heights for jobs like external painting, wall plastering, installing glass facades, glass cleaning, maintenance of external surfaces etc.It is being used at cement silos, power plants and wind-energy segment also.

What are the product trends in RSPs?

Normally a basic design of RSP with 7.5m length and 800 kg loading capacity (RSP-800) machines are used at site, but this mechanism is very flexible to use. 7.5m platform is joint assembly of 4 different platforms (2.5m+2.5m+1.5m+1.0m). So any required length can be selected as per requirement in available options.

What is the bearing of the changing design trends in high rise structures on the design of RSPs?

Innovation always takes place when needed. The same thing is applicable for RSP industry also. As per the changing design trends in high-rise structures; the customization in RSP also introduced. L-shape, Curve-shape, C-shape, Double Decker and other different modifications done in RSP design as per the project requirements and easiness of work.

What are the major safety features in-built in your product offerings?

Safety always comes first when we are talking about construction sites. Even RSPian mission is to provide the fastest and the strongest customized technical solutions across the nation by educating our valued customers about the safe mechanism of Rope Suspended Platforms and make them comfortable to use. The company is offering all advance safety gadgets with the machines. Digital Load Cell, Anti Tilting Cut Off, Anti Sway Restriction Device, Centrifugal Speed Limiter, are some of the major safety features in-built in our machines.

How have you been able leverage the advent of disruptive technologies in your systems?

There are some new technologies and features that have been added to the machines to make it safer and more reliable. Our duty is to spread awareness about the importance of these devices. We have added phase monitoring devices and over voltage protection devices compulsory with our control panels. Cable protection devices 9.1mm galvanised wire ropes, overhead protection and new design rope locking devices have also been added to the machines. 

Could you give couple of examples where your solution are used? What are the techno-commercial benefits?

Currently RSPianis providing some challenging RSP solutions for cement silos (Ultratech Cement Limited, Sonebhadra, UP), power plant (RGPPL, Ratnagiri), glass facade &cladding work at IBIS Hotel Project, Mumbai, etc.

On techno-commercial parameters, RSP is always a safe, advance, flexible and cost effective solution for a high-rise facade work. RSP is one time investment as an asset but can be used for many years at projects. It minimise the recurring cost like, installation cost, dismantling cost, transportation cost, big storage cost, labours cost and save overall project time as well.

What has been the level of appreciation for RSPs from different end-user segment and what do you think the major challenges?

RSP in now easy to operate because of clients' acceptance, awareness programs and on-site training sessions. The people are more comfortable to use in external painting and glass facade, cladding & glass cleaning segment. There are still some challenges in plastering and re-painting works due to the changing design trends in high rise structures and some limitations in available designs.

How do you look at the importance of training in this area? Also tell us the step initiated by RSPian?

Training is very important while using RSP. This is a machine and work on the basis of counter balancing of suspension mechanism (terrace level structures) and counter weights. The machine is designed in such a way that everyone has to follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for erection, dismantling and operation of machines. There is a list of safety gadgets which need to understand. Daily check-list (on daily basis before machine' operation) and weekly check-list (weekly machines' inspection) shall be mandatory for safe working on machines. Operator shall be well trained and a 3rd party safety inspection is always recommended after installation or shifting of machines.

RSPian always focus on safety, share all safety related documents with clients, educating them and providing training at site if required.

What is the current status of the sector how do you foresee the future trends?

Construction industry is badly impacted in the last 4-5 months due to the pandemic and lockdowns. The sites were closed but now the market is open and construction has resumed at many project sites. Green shoots are visible in the construction sector and that augurs well for solution provider like us. There is a spike in the sale of machinery, hiring business, spare parts and service contracts.
